Je me sou\u00adviens de ma joie sans \u00e9prou\u00adver de joie. Je me rap\u00adpelle ma tris\u00adtesse d\u2019autrefois sans \u00eatre triste. Et je me sou\u00adviens d\u2019avoir eu peur, par\u00adfois, sans avoir peur. M\u00e9moire sans d\u00e9sir d\u2019anciens d\u00e9si\u00adrs. Et par\u00adfois, au contraire, je me sou\u00adviens avec joie de ma tris\u00adtesse pas\u00ads\u00e9e ou avec tris\u00adtesse de ma joie pas\u00ads\u00e9e. Ou s\u2019agissant d\u2019un oubli, nous disons&nbsp;: je ne l\u2019ai pas \u00e0 l\u2019esprit. Ou encore&nbsp;: \u00e7a m\u2019est sor\u00adti de l\u2019esprit. Nous appe\u00adlons donc esprit la m\u00e9moire. Mais alors pour\u00adquoi, quand je me sou\u00adviens avec joie de ma tris\u00adtesse pas\u00ads\u00e9e, j\u2019ai la joie \u00e0 l\u2019esprit et la tris\u00adtesse en m\u00e9moire&nbsp;? et pour\u00adquoi l\u2019esprit pos\u00ads\u00e8de avec joie la joie alors que la m\u00e9moire n\u2019est pas triste de conte\u00adnir la tris\u00adtesse&nbsp;? La m\u00e9moire n\u2019aurait rien \u00e0 voir avec l\u2019esprit. Mais qui pour\u00adrait l\u2019affirmer&nbsp;? La m\u00e9moire est peut-\u00eatre comme le ventre de l\u2019esprit, dans lequel la joie et la tris\u00adtesse sont un ali\u00adment doux et amer. Un ali\u00adment qui, une fois pas\u00ads\u00e9 dans le ventre, s\u2019y retrouve, et peut ne plus avoir de go\u00fbt.
